I just got the updated versions of Photoshop and Lightroom 5. I decided to challenge some of the new features with some old shots from an Olympus FE4000. The shots were all taken at sunrise at Pacific Beach, Washington in the Summer of 2010, two months before I got my first DSLR.

A little background on why I was at Pacific Beach, Washington. My extended family was having a family reunion in Aberdeen, Washington at my Aunt’s house. My father is retired Air Force so he got a good deal on these cottages at the Pacific Beach Resort and Recreation Center. So time was limited for shooting, due to the obligations for family activities.

The Location

It was grey and foggy, a typical early morning in the Pacific Northwest. I had a Nikon F60 loaded full of Kodak T-Max 400 and a little Olympus FE4000. It was misty, cold, and damp from the previous night’s rains. There was a nice glow developing over the land to the east as I stood with my back to the Pacific. I figured I had about 40 minutes until the fog and marine layer over the ocean began to begin to grab some of the early morning light.

To pass the time I walked over to Emily’s Confection, a local shop with pastries and coffee. I grabbed a doughnut and a latte and spoke to a couple locals about the area.

After spending a half hour canoodling, I saw the ocean was starting to be discernible from the sky and headed back out to do some shooting. Pacific Beach is a beautiful little town in Northwest Washington. I hope to go back one day and maybe see more of the area when I can do it leisurely.
