Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk 2012 – Cincinnati

Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk 2012

This year I attended Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk in Cincinnati led by Keith and Angie Keiser of Keiser Photography located in Milford, Ohio.  Our walk took place along the river, starting in the Theodore M. Berry International Friendship Park and ending at Yeatman’s Cove Park.  After the walk we headed over the bridge to Newport on the Levee to have lunch at Tom + Chee.

About the Park

Our walk meandered through the Theodore M. Berry International Friendship Park, built in 2003. It winds alongside the Cincinnati bank of the Ohio River down to the Montgomery Inn Boathouse. It features many sculptures and a plethora of various plants that represent different areas around the world.

The park bears the name of Cincinnati’s first African American mayor, Ted Berry. He was a very prominent figure in civil rights in America. In 1945, Berry defended three black Army Air Force officers, members of the Tuskegee Airmen, who had protested a segregated officer’s club in Indiana. He won acquittal for two of the men. In 1995, the Air Force pardoned the third who had been convicted. He went on to be appointed to Cincinnati’s City Council in 1971. He was elected mayor in 1972 and served for four years—Cincinnati’s first African American mayor.

Keith and Angie Keiser own Keiser Photography in Milford, Ohio. They have been in business since 1984 and currently do a lot of portrait work and team sports. Check out their website to see all their offerings. They have recently began a program called Shoot Like a Pro. This program is a set of workshops and walks.

This is the second year in a row I have went on the Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photowalk with Keith. Last year, the weather was not as friendly but we still managed to have a great time. If you would like to see the photos from last year, here is a link to my Flickr set or if you prefer to not click so much you can see the set on YouTube here.

I am also excited to announce that we will be doing some collaborations in the future, I look forward to my time working with such great people.

About the Shoot

Well as normal, I used my Nikon D5000 (I can’t wait for the day I can tell you that I am using a new body). I swapped between 3 lenses, Nikon 18-55mm, Nikon 85mm 1.8G, and the Tamron 70-300mm 4-5.6. The light at the beginning of the day was a nice sidelight coming over the river. The benefits to this was twofold. Depending on where you were, you would get that great dramatic light from direct light from the sun, but if you shot in the right places, you would also get a nice bright diffused reflected light off the river. I tried to take advantage of this light as much as possible while it lasted. There were only a few places where there was a break in the treeline along the river, but when you found those spots it was awesome.
